A Benefit for Maverick Concert Hall with MARCO BENEVENTO, piano and DAVE DREIWITZ, bass

A Benefit for Maverick Concert Hall with MARCO BENEVENTO, piano and DAVE DREIWITZ, bass

Marco Benevento is a genre-defying pianist, songwriter, and producer whose infectious energy and experimental spirit have made him a cornerstone of the modern indie-jam scene. Based in New York’s Catskill Mountains, Benevento’s sound fuses indie rock, psych-pop, jazz, and funk into an electrifying live experience. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he first made waves in the early 2000s as one half of the groundbreaking Benevento/Russo Duo. Since then, he has released a string of acclaimed solo albums, most recently his self-titled record Benevento, a kaleidoscopic blend of analog synths, vintage keys, deep grooves, and dreamy vocals. Known for his inventive use of circuit-bent toys and effect pedals, Benevento transforms the stage into a sonic playground, delivering sets that are as danceable as they are unpredictable.

A passionate collaborator and creative force, Benevento also co-founded the indie label Royal Potato Family and curates the annual Follow the Arrow Festival in Woodstock, NY. Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or on the stages of Lollapalooza, he brings a unique combination of musical precision, spontaneity, and joy to every performance.

Joining him for this special evening is longtime friend and collaborator Dave Dreiwitz, a masterful multi-instrumentalist best known as the bassist for the legendary band Ween and a founding member of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. Dreiwitz has played with Marco for years as part of his trio and shares a deep musical chemistry that fuels their improvisational flair. With a resume that spans psychedelic rock (Tiny Lights), punk (Instant Death), and experimental jazz, Dreiwitz adds a dynamic rhythmic backbone to Benevento’s adventurous soundscapes. His performances are marked by groove, grit, and a playful virtuosity on bass, trumpet, and beyond.

Although Marco has lived in Woodstock for over a decade, this marks his first ever performance at the legendary Maverick Concert Hall. When he finally visited the venue—steeped in history—he was immediately struck by its acoustics and intimate charm. The hall’s rustic beauty and artistic legacy made a powerful impression, making this debut even more meaningful.

“I’ve lived in Woodstock for over ten years, but somehow Maverick Concert Hall remained a mystery to me—until now,” says Marco. “The first time I walked in, I felt this incredible energy in the room. Knowing that John Cage premiered 4’33” here gave me chills. It’s an honor to finally play this space and be part of its wild, beautiful history.”

This performance is more than a musical collaboration—it’s a benefit concert for Maverick Concerts, the nation’s oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, housed in the storied Maverick Concert Hall in Woodstock, NY. While long known for its classical programming, Maverick has expanded its vision with Saturday night performances that highlight jazz, world, and contemporary music, bringing a broader range of sounds and audiences into its iconic rustic setting.

Now, as the organization faces a significant challenge—the unexpected loss of National Endowment for the Arts funding for its programming—this concert offers crucial support. Proceeds will help sustain Maverick’s diverse and evolving artistic offerings and ensure its continued place as a vibrant cultural force in the Hudson Valley.

Expect a night of fearless musical exploration, deep groove, and a shared sense of purpose—all in service of keeping a beloved Woodstock institution thriving.
