As COVID cases ramp up, unionized nurses at Albany Medical Center continue working without a contract.
Despite threats to strike and an October press conference that criticized a "continued lack of preparations and safety protocols at Albany Med," upstate political director for the New York State Nurses Association Corey Ellis, also the president of the Albany Common Council, says the nurses haven't followed through. Yet.
"Because if they make that decision, I think the Capital Region community need not ask the nurses why they're doing it. I think the Capital Region community members, elected officials, anyone should be asking Albany Medical Center 'How in the world did you allow your nurses to go out on strike during this? You are endangering my family.' So the question should never be put back on those nurses."
The hospital maintains --- quoting now --- "The health and safety of our patients, students and staff remain Albany Med’s top priorities."
