A Thanksgiving afternoon standoff between Albany police and an unidentified man ended peacefully.
Police say trouble began around noontime at the Motel 6 on Watervliet Avenue Extension, when the man interacted inappropriately with a motel guest. Police were summoned but the man had left by the time officers arrived, only to return later while they were interviewing the victim.
They observed the man driving erratically, but were able to conduct a traffic stop. He took off again and one officer fired a shot or shots from his weapon - no injuries reported.
There was a standoff ending with the man surrendering to authorities outside Spectrum News.
A police spokesman says the man involved has mental health issues. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
