A company lawyer says one of three asphalt plant workers hurt in a tanker truck explosion and fire has died of his injuries.
Frank O'Connor, attorney for The Gorman Group in Albany, says 56-year-old Joe Nichols of Amsterdam died late Wednesday at Westchester Medical Center. Nichols and two co-workers were injured Monday at a Gorman Group-owned facility along the Mohawk River in Schenectady.
O'Connor says another worker remains in critical condition at Westchester and the third suffered less serious injuries.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says a mix of asphalt and kerosene was being loaded into a tanker truck when vapors ignited. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and fire officials are investigating.
O'Connor says Nichols worked at Mohawk Asphalt Emulsions for 24 years.
