While declining to address this specific case, UAlbany spokesperson Karl Luntta said "in general, for all students who are referred for student conduct hearings, a decision will be rendered whether the students appear or not."
The University at Albany students arrested last month following a fight on an Albany CDTA bus face a disciplinary hearing this morning at 9:30 at UAlbany.
Area media report that even though all three women involved, Asha Burwell, Ariel Agudio, and Alexis Briggs, have been ordered to appear before the panel made up of faculty, staff, and students, Asha Burwell’s attorney Frederick Brewington says his client will not attend the hearing and has withdrawn from the university.
Burwell, Agudio, and Briggs were all arrested by university police, who accused them of lying about being attacked by white men who were spewing racial slurs on a CDTA bus ride January 30th.
In an email, Brewington accuses the University at Albany of "seeking a pound of flesh while disregarding the rights of three African-American female students." He further suggests the school should change its name to the "University of Injustice."
