The mayor of Watervliet will be sworn in Wednesday for a third term.

Mike Manning will officially begin his term in the part-time position with a 5 p.m. ceremony at City Hall.

Watervliet’s police force was rocked by scandal in 2015 when one member was arrested on an underage sex charge and another as part of a drug investigation. But speaking with WAMC News in August, Manning said he remained optimistic about the city’s future.

“I don’t think it casts a shadow, and if it does, it’s only temporary. We have a lot of momentum going, we have a lot of different programs going that reach into all aspects of the city,” he said.

A native of the Hudson River city of about 10,000 in Albany County, Manning is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and works for GE Power and Water in Schenectady.

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
