Back in October 2019 we had the privilege of welcoming the amazing Eilen Jewell back to our stage for her fourth time at The Linda. Eilen somehow has the ability to sound like she’s singing directly to you. Her rich smoky voice triggers nostalgia as if it’s from a time long ago but her music is at the same time truly modern. Her band creates a cinematicesque bed of western swing, gypsy jazz, American folk, melancholy surf rock, blues, and rockabilly. The band includes Jerry Miller on guitar, drummer and Eilen’s husband Jason Beek and upright bassist Matt Murphy. But the star is Eilen’s lyricism. She coveys a story in such a way that you might feel as though you personally just lived it yourself. Eilen and her band came to The Linda on the heels of their most recent full length album “Gypsy,” which received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. You’re going to hear many selections from “Gypsy” tonight, as well as a few unique covers and a plethora of other originals spanning Eilen’s impressive career. So enjoy, Eilen Jewell; recorded live at The Linda on October 20, 2019.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Nora Jane Struthers is notable for her critically acclaimed Americana and roots rock.  NPR described Struthers as “quietly brilliant,” in article headlined "Country Music’s Year Of The Woman.” Struthers’ 2013 album “Carnival,” spent more than three months in the top 20 of the Americana radio charts and peaked at no. 7. “Carnival” ranked 24th on the 2013 Americana airplay top 100 list.  Struthers followed-up carnival with 2015's “Wake” and 2017’s “Champion,” which also earned Struthers acclaim from major outlets. Struthers wrote and recorded these albums with her longtime road band The Party Line, and the vibe between her and the other players is really cool. Struthers and the Party Line released another album in 2020 titled “Bright Lights, Long Drives, First Words.” A performance by Nora Jane and her band is full to the brim with outstanding musicianship and unanticipated arrangements that smear the lines of genres. As you’ll hear listening to the show tonight, it’s clear that everyone at The Linda that night was having a great time. So here we go with Nora Jane Struthers and the Party Line recorded live at The Linda on January 19, 2018.

Before we go we wanted to share a preview of an outstanding artist joining us live at The Linda, August 7th. Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Leslie Mendelson, who has been described as an artist with “a loyal, cross-generational audience that hugs the hippie, hipster, coffee shop and society crowds,” and “the closest thing one can get to a truly honest musical experience.”

We think you’ll agree. Here’s Leslie Mendelson with “Lay It All on Me.” You can get tickets to this show and all of our upcoming shows at thelinda.org.
