Each Wednesday and Sunday evening at 8 p.m. "Live At The Linda" brings you some of the best musical acts to grace the stage at The Linda - WAMC's Performing Arts Studio. This week’s “from the vault circa 2016” episode features Sierra Hull and the Matt Flinner Trio.

Sierra Hull started her career off with a bang making her grand ole opry debut at the advanced age of ten-years-old. She was called back to the famous stage a year later to perform with her hero and mentor Alison Krauss. She played Carnegie Hall at 12, and made her first record deal at 13. In her late teens, she garnered the first of many nominations for mandolin player of the year, became the first musician to receive a presidential scholarship at Berklee College of Music, and oh yeah - played the White House.  Suffice to say, that’s a pretty impressive resume. By 2016, Hull had reached a more mature place in her art and this was the year that brought Sierra to our venue for the release tour of her third album “Weighted Mind,” produced by the legendary Bela Fleck. A departure from her first two records that blended progressive elements with traditional structure, Hull let go of whatever preconceptions existed and birthed a Grammy nominated masterpiece. Many of the tunes you’ll hear tonight are from the “Weighted Mind” album.  So here’s Sierra Hull recorded live at The Linda on November 19, 2016.

The Matt Flinner Trio has been performing its special cocktail of acoustic libations since its inception in 2006. Now, these guys are a perfect example of how working with a wide variety of musical styles & influences can challenge the traditional. Bluegrass, jazz, Celtic, they’re all here, but not necessarily overtly or in a contrived sense. You can call it Americana, you could call it new acoustic, or maybe chamber grass. Whatever label you put on it, it’s fresh and original, it’s something you've never quite heard before. It’s the Matt Flinner Trio. This concert featured special guest Frank Vignola who is an extraordinary guitarist, and the top choice for many of the world’s top musicians. Having Matt Flinner himself recognized as one of the premiere mandolinists and Frank Vignola as one of the most sought after guitarists on the international music scene together onstage guaranteed a night of great music. So here we go, let’s listen to the Matt Flinner Trio featuring mandolinist, Matt Flinner, guitarist Ross Martin, bassist Eric Thorin and special guest guitarist Frank Vignola- recorded live at The Linda on February 25, 2016.

The month of May sees the finale of the “Open for Take-Out Virtual Concert Series” in collaboration with Chromoscope Pictures. We close out the series on May 24th with the dynamic jazz ensemble Matty Stecks and the 518!  But, the music stays alive, because “Open for Take-Out” virtual concerts are moving forward as the “Open for Business” actual concert series Thursdays this summer, with live audiences back in The Linda for the first time in over a year. Announcements soon, and we can’t wait to see you!
