Kim Janda - Scripps Research Institute

Dr. Kim D. Janda currently holds the rank of the Ely R. Callaway, Jr. Chaired Professor in the Departments of Chemistry, Immunology and Microbial Science at The Scripps Research Institute and is the Director of the Worm Institute of Research and Medicine (WIRM) at The Scripps Research Institute. He was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1957 wherein 1975 he matriculated to the University of South Florida and obtained a BS in Clinical Chemistry in 1980 and a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona (1984) in natural product total synthesis. Janda’s current research efforts straddle the interface of chemical biology. Janda is a Skaggs Scholar within the Skaggs Institute of Chemical Biology also at The Scripps Research Institute. He is a current member of the NIH study section Vaccines against Microbial Diseases. He also holds he positions of Associate Editor of Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry and PloS ONE.

Jaime Cloud received her Ph.D. in evolutionary psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012, studying under Dr. David Buss. Her research focuses on bodily traits that signal fertility in women and status competition between women. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Psychological Sciences department at Western Oregon University.

Patricia Drentea is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. She is currently writing a book on Families and Aging, and also does research on debt and mental health. She has recently published in the journals: Society and Mental Health, The Gerontologist and the Journal of Family Issues.

K.J. Rawson is an Assistant Professor of English at the College of the Holy Cross. With Eileen E. Schell, he co-edited Rhetorica in Motion: Feminist Rhetorical Methods and Methodologies (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2010) and his scholarship has appeared in Archivaria, Enculturation, Present Tense, QED, and several edited collections. He recently began work on the Digital Transgender Archive, an online digital repository of transgender-related historical materials.

Jo-Renee Formicola - Seton Hall University
Church / State Issues
Jo Renee Formicola, Ph.D. is Professor of Political Science at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. She teaches courses there on the conflicts, co-operation and public policies that involve both Church and State. She is the author of four books: 1) Clerical Sexual Abuse: How the Crisis Changed U. S. Catholic Church- State Relations, 2) The Catholic Church and Human Rights, 3) Pope John Paul II: Prophetic Politician, and 4) The Politics of Values. She is the co-author of The Bush Faith-Based Initiative: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and The Politics of School Choice. She is the co-editor and chapter contributor to Everson Revisited: Religion, Education and Law at the Crossroads as well as Taking Religious Pluralism Seriously and Religious Leaders and Faith Based Politics. Formicola is a frequent contributor to refereed journals and an analyst for the media.
