WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — The mayor of Mount Vernon, New York has pleaded guilty to federal tax charges.

Ernest D. Davis entered the plea Tuesday in White Plains. The 76-year-old mayor pleaded guilty to two counts of willfully failing to file federal income tax returns. He faces a maximum of two years in prison at a sentencing scheduled for Jan. 26.

As part of his plea, Davis admitted failing to disclose to the Internal Revenue Service that he sold a Mount Vernon building in 2003 that he had purchased in 1988.

Authorities say he also admitted that he failed to file a federal income tax return for 2011, when he earned about $106,000. And court papers say he failed to report rental income for a 10-year period ending in 2012.
