A four-man team of pro racers from Michigan and Quebec has shattered the course record for the Adirondack Canoe Classic, a 90-mile, three-day race from Old Forge to Saranac Lake.
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports that Andy Triebold, Steve Lajoie, Nick Walton and Matt Rimer paddled a four-person canoe to the finish line Sunday. It took them 11 hours, 6 minutes and 29 seconds. The previous record was 11 hours and 24 minutes by a tandem kayak.
Triebold is from Spring Arbor, Mich.; Lajoie is from Mirabel, Quebec; Rimer is from Grayling, Mich., and Walton is from Eaton Rapids, Mich.
This was their first time paddling together and their first time competing in the 30-year-old Adirondack Canoe Classic, which had 260 finishers. The route includes lakes and rivers.
