Report Of Stolen CDTA Bus Leads To Arrest On NYS Thruway

Some tense moments Friday morning as a CDTA bus was stolen in Albany.

According to New York State Police and Albany Police, the CDTA Star Bus #254 was stolen by 29-year-old Jonnathan Bonaparte from a lot on Hamilton Street near the Greyhound bus terminal. 

The bus taken around 9:10 a.m. was not in service.

Law enforcement reported the purloined bus traveled west on I-90 in Albany before heading south on I-87. 

The bus was reported stopped and Bonaparte was taken in custody by New York State Police around 9:40 a.m.

State Police say the bus was stopped on I-87 at mile marker 138.3, about 3 miles south of Exit 23. 

No injuries were reported. 

Bonaparte was charged with criminal possession of stolen proprty. The Albany man was arraigned before the Town of Bethlehem Court and remanded to Albany County Jail without bail due to two prior felony convictions. He is due back in court June 1.
