Longtime Dutchess County Legislator Barbara Jeter-Jackson has died at age 82.
A Poughkeepsie Democrat, Jeter-Jackson has been a part of county and city government for decades: she was first elected to the county legislature in 2004 and previously served on the Poughkeepsie common council and the city school board. County Executive Marc Molinaro confirmed Jeter-Jackson’s death in a statement Sunday, calling her a “mother to many” who made an “immeasurable difference” to the county.

She was a friend, partner in service and in many important ways, mentor. While she is at peace and, as she believed fervently, at home with her God.

Poughkeepsie Common Councilmember-At-Large Sarah Salem also praised Jeter-Jackson's service in a statement, saying, "When I first ran for office she offered support and guidance before I even had a chance to ask. I am so grateful to have met such an incredibly beautiful soul, and role model."
