The Massachusetts Department of Public Health says a Berkshire County man is the first in the region to die of COVID-19.The man is described as being in his 70s and having "an underlying health condition." He had been hospitalized with the virus, as were two other men who died Sunday — one in his 70s from Hampden County and one in his 90s from Suffolk County.

In total, five people have died of coronavirus in the commonwealth. The DPH says that as of Sunday, there are 23 confirmed cases in Berkshire County and 646 cases in Massachusetts overall. The DPH says anyone who develops symptoms should immediately self-isolate and call their healthcare provider to determine whether they should be assessed in person.
