Adams Man Killed After Neighbor Intervenes In Dog Attack

Facebook: Adams Police Department

The Berkshire District Attorney's office says an Adams, Massachusetts man died Wednesday after his neighbor tried to save him from a dog attack – and accidentally shot him with a crossbow.

Investigators believe the neighbor heard the mauling at 19 Bellevue Avenue, called police, entered the residence, and shot at one of two attacking pit bulls. The arrow reportedly hit one of the dogs, went through a door, and fatally struck the victim as he tried to barricade himself from the animals.

Police are calling the death accidental at this time, and say the neighbor is cooperating with authorities. An unharmed child was also found at the residence. The dogs reportedly had a history of being aggressive, and were killed by police after they turned on responding officers at the scene.

Authorities did not immediately release names.
