Dan Dwyer, the three-term Democratic mayor of Rensselaer, died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
Dwyer, a former Air Force pilot and longtime employee of Pan American Airways, was elected to his first term as Rensselaer mayor in 2005.
Under the city charter, Common Council President Richard Mooney will take over the part-time position.
