Maloney’s Ag Advisory Committee Issues Report

NEWBURGH – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s Agricultural Advisory Committee has completed its report listing priorities for the Hudson Valley, one week before the House Agriculture Committee will consider the 2013 farm bill.

Maloney’s committee, comprised of farmers in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Westchester, called for supporting specialty crops, increasing access to credit, expanding distribution of locally-grown food, reducing government regulations, and protecting conservation programs.

“Our farmers are critical to growing our local economy and creating jobs, and it’s clear that Washington has a lot of rules that don’t look out for them,” Maloney said. “The folks in this committee know how to make the farm bill better, and together we can make it work for business and farmers in the Hudson Valley.”
