Montpelier, VT – Vermont has received $4.9 million under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports...

The latest allotment released by the federal government brings Vermont's total to $19.5 million this winter, down from $26 million in 2010. The state of Vermont has committed $6.1 million to help make up the difference.

Senators Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders and Representative Peter Welch are co-sponsors of legislation that would provide additional funding for LIHEAP matching last year's total of $4.7 billion nationwide and $26 million for Vermont.

I'm Pat Bradley, WAMC News.
