Pownal Biomass Developer Addresses Concerns

Pownal, VT – A proposed 30 megawatt wood-burning biomass plant in Pownal, Vermont has opposition groups from Vermont and Massachusetts banding together to block its construction. If approved, the 250 million dollar plant would become Vermont's third utility scale biomass production facility, but opponents say it will negatively impact air and water quality as well as lead to clear cutting in the region's forests. WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief Charlie Deitz spoke with Tom Emero, the principal behind Beaverwood Energy, the group proposing the plant. They begin their conversation discussing concerns over particulate matter produced in the wood burning process
