Albany, NY – James Levine is one of the biggest names in Classical music and he is back at Tanglewood this summer. He is the orchestra's fourteenth music director since the Boston Symphony Orchestra's founding in 1881 and the first American-born conductor to hold that position. Levine is also the Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera, where, in the thirty-five years since his debut there, he has developed a relationship with that company unparalleled in its history and unique in the musical world today. All told, at the Met he has led more than 2,000 performances of 80 different operas. He is also the recipient of many awards including the Crystal Award from the World Economics Forum, America's National Medal of Arts and Kennedy Center Honors, and the 2005 award for distinguished Service to the Arts from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a 2006 Opera News award.
