Wilmer Chavarria

A panel on ICE detentions of U.S. citizens was held Tuesday in Washington, D.C. and the superintendent of the Winooski, Vermont School District was among the five panelists.

Wilmer Chavarria has been a naturalized citizen of the U.S. since 2018 and the superintendent of the Winooski, Vermont School District for two years. Last week, as he returned from a visit to his family in Nicaragua, he was detained at the Houston airport and questioned for nearly 5 hours.
