Vermont Retail Businesses Reopen With Restrictions

May 18, 2020

Vermont is continuing its gradual reopening from coronavirus pandemic closures. As WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports, retail stores reopened with restrictions for in-person customers on Monday.

Stores must keep occupancy to no more than 25% of capacity. All employees must wear face coverings and stay at least 6 feet from customers and other staff members. Gov. Phil Scott says the low number of new cases being reported in Vermont makes it possible to continue reopening businesses.  “If things go well we’ll announce some additional openings like hair salons and barber shops and hopefully more services in the health care field.”

The governor plans to announce what he calls a major economic relief and recovery package on Friday.
