Vermont Police Chief Rescinds Assault Citation And Apologizes

A Vermont police chief has apologized to a Black man who was issued an assault citation following a neighborhood fight, and rescinded the citation.
In a statement Essex Police Chief Ron Hoague said more investigation should have been done before the aggravated assault citation was issued after the July 13 disturbance outside an Essex Junction home.  Police later received a video from the suspect showing that the woman involved directed a racial slur at him.

A supervisor will review the evidence and then submit it to the office of the Chittenden County state’s attorney to determine the appropriate charges.
