Vermont To Get $71 Million For Summer And After-School Programs

Vermont plans to expand options for summer programs for kids using federal COVID-19 relief funding following a tough school year amid the pandemic.

The American Rescue Plan tripled funding over the next three years for summer, after-school and enrichment programs, and Vermont will get about $71 million for such programs. U.S. Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders said that is in addition to normal funding.

“This money is going mostly to school districts around the state," Sanders said. "So my appeal to school districts is that we have got to make these programs affordable.”

Senator Sanders spoke during Republican Governor Phil Scott’s Friday briefing.
