Two Dozen Projects Being Considered In Springfield For First CPA Grants

A proposed study of repairs needed to restore the Springfield Campanile clock tower is one 24 projects under consideration to receive the first Community Preservation Act grants in Springfield.

      Two dozen projects are being considered for funding under the new Community Preservation Act program in Springfield, Massachusetts.

     A voter-approved property tax surcharge has raised $1.3 million for the initial round of CPA funding.

     The state law requires the money be spent on historic preservation, affordable housing, or open space.

      WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Bob McCarroll, chairman of the Springfield Community Preservation Committee.
