Outgoing State Rep. Aaron Vega To Head Holyoke's Economic Development Office

Aaron Vega Facebook

Outgoing Massachusetts Democratic State Representative Aaron Vega is going to be the city of Holyoke’s chief economic development officer.

Mayor Alex Morse announced Vega will take over in January for Marcos Merrero, who is leaving the post of Director of the city’s Office of Planning and Economic Development to spend more time with his young family.

Vega is a Holyoke native, a business entrepreneur, and a former City Councilor. He announced in February he would not seek re-election to a 5th term representing the 5th Hampden District in the Massachusetts House.  Patricia Duffy, the longtime aide to Vega, was elected this month to succeed him.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Vega.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
