MGM Resorts, which has signed a number of betting partnerships with professional sports, is expected to push hard for legal sports betting in Massachusetts.
MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis said the company is “very anxious” to be able to offer sports betting at the western Massachusetts resort casino.
"That is something we plan on tackling with the legislature right after the first of the year and we've been doing some of the prep work for that," Mathis said in a recent interview.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission estimates sports betting could bring in tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue.
Gov. Charlie Baker has said he’s open to the idea.
Two casinos in Rhode Island last month began accepting bets on professional sports.
