Judge Rules Man Not Competent For Trial In 2017 Killing Of Wife

A Vermont judge says a man charged with killing his wife with a meat cleaver is not competent to stand trial.
The legal filing this week agreed with an evaluation by a court-appointed doctor that Aita Gurung cannot stand trial, for now, for the 2017 killing of his wife.

Gurung's defense attorney Sandra Lee says she will argue at a hearing later this month that he should be hospitalized. He is currently jailed.

Gurung was charged with murder after his wife's death, but the charges were dropped after the county prosecutor determined he was not competent for trial. The charges were refiled in September by the attorney general's office.
