Five more Pittsfield, Massachusetts city councilors have endorsed Alex Morse in his bid to unseat Congressman Richard Neal in the Democratic primary.

Peter Marchetti, Pete White, Earl Persip, Anthony Maffuccio, and Helen Moon officially backed the progressive Holyoke mayor Wednesday. White tells WAMC he thinks Morse understands Pittsfield’s needs, as a municipal leader of another post-industrial Western Massachusetts city.

“Alex has shown that he shows up. I’ll just run into him places and it doesn’t have to be some big formal event," said White. "And I just feel having him – if he becomes the nominee and then our congressman – we’ll have someone who’s really listening to us and really connected with us.”

Eight of the city’s 11 councilors have endorsed Morse, with Dina Lampiasi, Patrick Kavey, and Yuki Cohen already committed to his campaign.

The primary is September 1st.
