About $2,000 has been anonymously donated to pay off student lunch debt at a Vermont elementary school.
Officials at Union Elementary School in Montpelier say the check was written just before the New Year and settled all 116 student lunch accounts with negative balances.

Officials with the Montpelier-Roxbury School District says students are never turned away if they don't have funds for a meal, which led to an accrual of negative balances on lunch accounts.

A lunch at the school costs $3.25, and a breakfast costs $1.75. Principal Ryan Heraty says the donation was unexpected and a real act of kindness.
