Advocates Say Study Group To Shape Police Oversight Is Too Slow

Advocates are criticizing how leaders in Bennington are proposing to create a police oversight board.
A proposal released two weeks ago would create an 11-member committee to study how a police oversight board should be structured and run. The committee would deliver a plan by May 2022.

The Bennington Banner reports that on Monday Rutland Area NAACP president Mia Schultz and ACLU of Vermont attorney Jay Diaz said the proposed process was deeply flawed and too slow.

Board Chairwoman Jeannie Jenkins said this was the kind of input from the public they were seeking.
