Northampton City Council President Runs For State Senate

Northampton City Council President Ryan O’Donnell has launched a campaign for Massachusetts State Senate.

He is one of four people who have announced plans to run for the Hampshire, Franklin, Worcester District seat that had been held since 1991 by Amherst Democrat Stan Rosenberg.

O’Donnell had been a candidate for the Massachusetts House seat of the late Peter Kocot, but when Rosenberg resigned, he decided to begin a write-in campaign for the Senate.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with O’Donnell.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
