Federal lawmakers from New York are calling for more transparency regarding the impending closure of a Veterans Affairs clinic in Schenectady County.
In a letter Monday to Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, New York senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, along with Congressman Paul Tonko, called for the release of plans for the closure of the Schenectady Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
Tonko, whose district includes the location of the clinic, says it should not close until the plans are communicated to the patients.
The lawmakers say the VA has not addressed the concerns of the more than 1,500 veterans in the Capital Region who rely on the clinic for their care.
The VA announced the August 28 closure of the clinic in March. The VA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
