New scam warning

The Clinton County sheriff is warning that there is a new financial scam circulating in the area.

According to Sheriff David Favro, scammers call claiming to be an investigator or officer with a warrant for missing jury duty. The scammer then advises people to go to Walgreens or other outlets to get Greendot Bank Money Pak gift cards to pay the court. The scammer then asks for the codes from the cards, which gives them access to the money on the cards.

The sheriff emphasizes that the commissioner of jurors, police officers, deputy sheriff’s or the courts will never ask people for gift cards or request money over the phone.
