The search continues for a child with autism who went missing in Menands and might need medical attention.
Law enforcement, family and volunteers have been searching for 7-year-old Harbe Nagi, who is reportedly nonverbal, in the surrounding neighborhood and woods since Sunday night. Harbe has likely not eaten or consumed any water since he ran away.
Harbe was last seen at that home on Park Drive at 4:20 p.m. Sunday. Harbe and his mother were visiting a friend in the area when he ran away, according to Adam Alharbi, the boy’s uncle.
“Usually, at her house, she knows how to keep things shut and keep him away from the door,” said Alharbi, who arrived in Albany Monday afternoon from Hamtramck, Michigan, where he is mayor. “But here, unfortunately, he was able to escape and nowhere to be found to this time.”
On Monday afternoon, two Menands Police Department cars and two State Police vehicles were parked outside the home where Harbe went missing. Troopers on the scene declined to comment.
Several volunteers have also assisted in the search. One of those volunteers, Kimberly Davis, said she’d spent just under two hours looking for Harbe and that she was planning to return after taking a break to cool off.
“I just live like 15 minutes away, and I thought, ‘It was my day off, I might as well go look for the kid,’” said Davis, who didn’t know the family.
Alharbi said the family is “very, very grateful” for the community members who’ve volunteered to help search for Harbe.
“Our goal right now is just to find him,” Alharbi said.
Nagi is 3 feet, 7 inches tall and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light-colored T-shirt, dark pants and no shoes.
The family is offering a $10,000 reward for “information leading to the safe recovery of Harbe Nagi.”
