Police in Saratoga Springs are investigating after a stabbing and shots fired incident early Saturday morning. According to authorities, a fight broke out on Caroline Street near Broadway involving 15 to 20 people just after 2 a.m.

A 26-year-old man was stabbed in the torso during the fight. The fight continued up Caroline Street until an unidentified person fired a handgun several times.

Officials are blaming the violent incident on gang members they say traveled to the Spa City from Albany.

WAMC's Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard spoke with Saratoga Springs Public Safety Commissioner Robin Dalton, who is also running an independent campaign for mayor, about the incident.  Dalton explained why the city is placing blame on gang members...

Lucas Willard is a news reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011. He produces and hosts The Best of Our Knowledge and WAMC Listening Party.
