Voters in Amsterdam have ousted the incumbent mayor for the second straight election.
Democrat Michael Cinquanti defeated first-term incumbent Republican Mike Villa 57 to 43 percent, according to unofficial results.
Cinquanti thanked his supporters online and said he promises to “spend the next four years of my life doing my very best for this city I love.”
Villa posted a statement online thanking his supporters and said in part “Our journey is coming to a close but a new chapter will begin.” Villa asked the public to come together to support the newly elected officials.
Fewer than 3,000 votes were cast in the Montgomery County city of about 18,000.
