Caroga Arts Collective Awaits Referendum On Sherman's Property

For many years, the 4th of July holiday was one of the biggest days of the year in Caroga Lake in the Adirondacks.

Now, the Caroga Arts Collective is seeking to purchase the former Sherman's amusement park on the shore of Caroga Lake. The property is currently owned by the Town of Caroga, and the sale will go before the voters in the small Fulton County community in August.

For the past several years, Caroga Arts Collective has hosted a summertime classical music series that has garnered praise from neighbors and visitors.

CAC Artistic and Executive Director Kyle Price spoke to WAMC's Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard about his organization's plans to turn the run-down park into a destination.

Lucas Willard is a news reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011. He produces and hosts The Best of Our Knowledge and WAMC Listening Party.
