Conservation Group Protects 890 Acres In Saratoga County

A conservation organization has purchased hundreds of acres along the Hudson River in Saratoga County.

The Open Space Institute announced Friday its purchase of 890 acres adjacent to Moreau Lake State Park. The group hopes to transfer the land to New York State, adding to the park.

Located off the Adirondack Northway, the so-called “Smith Farm” purchase was obtained for $1.4 million.

OSI says it envisions a "continuous swath" of protected land between the Green Mountains in Vermont to the Adirondacks.

In December, New York State purchased 131 acres, expanding Moreau Lake State Park to 6,100 acres.
