Cornell Reins In Fraternities Amid Reports Of Hazing

Cornell University has announced new rules for its fraternities and sororities after reports of hazing.

From now on, hard liquor is prohibited in residential chapter houses and by 2021, all Greek residences will be required to have a live-in adviser.

Cornell also says chapters will face a minimum three-year suspension for hazing involving coerced drinking or drug use, sexual misconduct or other forms of violence or mental abuse.

President Martha Pollack announced the reforms Friday following the three-year suspension of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Pollack says reports of other alleged hazing incidents are pending.

Cornell has a large Greek system with 63 chapters that include more than 4,500 students.
