A man who crashed a motorboat into a wooden vessel on Lake George last summer, killing a young girl and injuring her mother, has been sentenced.

In July of 2016, Alexander West piloted a boat into a craft carrying 8-year-old Charlotte McCue and her family. McCue was killed and her mother was seriously injured.

West then fled the scene. He turned himself in the next day.

The crash occurred after West had spent the day partying on Lake George. West was convicted of eight of 12 charges including manslaughter.

The Daily Gazette reports that 25-year-old West was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison on Monday.
