Teen Rescued After Falling Into Sewer

A 14-year-old boy in Saratoga County is lucky to be alive after he fell into an open sewer and was swept up in rushing water.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s office says it got a call Saturday afternoon where it was reported three male teenagers were playing around a sewer diversion box located on a closed section of the Zim Smith Trail in the town of Ballston, when one fell in. A cover was reportedly left off the box that was opened while under construction.

The teen that fell was carried underground approximately 2,500 feet. He was found by officers farther down the line at the Curtis Lumber Industrial Park with cuts and scrapes and was taken to Saratoga Hospital for an evaluation.

The trail will remain closed between Oak Street and Underpass Road due to ongoing construction.
