A sewer pipe break caused by last week's heavy rain has spilled millions of gallons of raw sewage into a central New York lake.

The Post-Standard reports Onondaga County has told the state Department of Environmental Conservation that a 42-inch diameter pipe near Syracuse's Inner Harbor broke Friday when it rained for nearly an entire day.

The county report filed with the DEC said sewage spilled into Onondaga Lake at a rate of 5,000 gallons per minute for more than a day, totaling more than 7 million gallons.

The county's Water Environment Protection commissioner says the 50-year-old pipe will be repaired this weekend, when sewage flows will be lower.

County officials say "no health or major environmental impacts have been identified."
