Although he’s already been in the position for several months, Gary Herzig will be officially inaugurated as mayor of Oneonta on New Year’s Day.
Herzig, a Democrat, was appointed by the city council amid an unopposed election campaign in September to serve the rest of the acting mayor’s term.
Herzig begins a two-year term on Friday, when he’ll be sworn-in at noon alongside city councilors, a city judge and Otsego County Board Representatives.
"We're going to have an unprecedented turnover in city government on January 1st in both elected offices and key positions and staff," Herzig says.
The ceremony will be held at Foothills Performing Arts Center.
