U.S. Senator Charles Schumer has announced more than one billion dollars in federal funding has been secured to support naval reactors, including two in the Capital Region.
The Democrat said Wednesday that the funding to support the Navy Reactors program will be included in the omnibus spending bill. A portion of the $1.3 billion appropriation will support Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory’s Kesslring Site in West Milton in Saratoga County, and Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna, in Schenectady County.
The Kesselring site employs 700 and trains more than 1,000 Navy cadets annually.
Capital Region Congressman Paul Tonko has also advocated for the Kesselring site.
