The race for mayor is shaping up in Saratoga Springs as a Republican and political newcomer has announced his candidacy.
Saratoga Springs businessman John Safford became the first declared candidate for mayor when he spoke to a crowd of supporters Thursday.
“I have the business and prof exp to get the job done. I’m ready to do away with the status quo and return us to a responsible and honest civil discourse. Simply put, I’m ready to be your next mayor,” said Safford.
In a statement, Mayor Joanne Yepsen welcomed Safford to the race without confirming she is seeking reelection. She said she is proud of her record and “all we have been able to accomplish in less than two years as mayor.”
