Woerner: Restore Education Funding

As New York lawmakers return to Albany this week, Democrat Carrier Woerner, who is beginning her first term representing Washington and Saratoga Counties in the 113th Assembly District, said she wants to restore funding to upstate schools.

Woerner said she is seeking restoration of the so-called gap elimination adjustment, a cut in education funding made to fill a budget shortfall at the height of the economic recession.

“It has impacted rural schools disproportionately and I represent a rural district, and programs have been cut in our district. It’s time to bring that money back, now that the state is running a surplus.”

Lawmakers are expected to argue over how to spend the state’s $5 billion in legal settlement money in the new session.
