Halfmoon Democrat Calls For Debate

A Democratic candidate for Halfmoon town board is calling for a debate in a community that has been rocked by political scandal for the past several months.

In July, former Republican town supervisor Mindy Wormuth pleaded not guilty to felony charges of misusing campaign donations. In August, prominent developer and Republican donor Bruce Tanski was indicted on charges related to concealing political donations to Wormuth’s reelection campaign.

Democrat Deanna Stephenson is running for a spot on Halfmoon’s all-Republican town board. She tells WAMC News it’s time for a debate against GOP candidate Jeremy Connors.

“We need to unify the town, and work together to solve these problems, and no way better of doing that than let’s have an open, transparent, and accountable board.”

The Albany Times Union reported Democratic town board candidate Joseph Christopher dropped his bid after claiming town Republicans were planning to use a dropped drug charge from 1995 against him. The Halfmoon Republican Committee denied the accusation.
