Questions Over Cuomo's Independence Party Endorsement Timeline

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has accepted the Independence Party’s nomination for reelection, but a comment he made to reporters appears to conflict with the timeline of events.

According to documents filed to the New York State Board of elections Governor Cuomo accepted the Independence Party designation as notarized on May 22nd, the same day he was officially nominated by the state Democratic party.

However, later that day the governor told reporters in Cooperstown that he hadn’t come to a decision yet to pursue the Independence Party nomination.

“Those are decisions that we are going to be making down the road,” said Cuomo.

The governor’s official designation came Friday after the Independence Party Committee met in Albany.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino scheduled a critical press conference for Friday afternoon.
