Environmental Advocates of New York has hired a new executive director, and it’s someone who is very familiar to environmental concerns in New York.
Peter Iwanowicz is currently the Assistant Vice President of the American Lung Association. He is in charge of the national group’s Healthy Air Campaign, which advocates for clean air protections. Prior to that position, Iwanowitz served in Governor Paterson’s administration as deputy secretary for the environment and acting commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation. He also launched New York’s Office of Climate Change, and led the state’s entry into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Prior to his state service, Peter Iwanowicz worked for the American Lung Association in New York, and in the mid-90s, Environmental Advocates. Iwanowitz says he is going back to lead an organization where he “cut his policy teeth” on clean air and energy issues.
Green advocates in the state are pleased to have Iwanowitz return to New York’s environmental community full time.

New York Public Interest Research Group Senior Environmental Associate Laura Haight worked with Iwanowitz at Environmental Advocates years ago and says he has been a longtime champion of environmental issues.
Iwanowicz begins his new job as executive director of Environmental Advocates on November 7th.
